Discovering Portland
Sunday, June 10th 2007.
The blog has been neglected lately, I know. I’m currently in Portland, OR for the summer, doing an internship with Intel (and that’s probably going to be the first and last thing ever that I am going to say about the ol’ employer on here). I’ve been thinking about picking up the blog again while I’m here, posting about my discoveries in this new and exciting town. Of course, so far I’ve been procrastinating about that — I’ve been here for three weeks now. I can blame it on everything that comes with settling into a new town or job, or on the fact that I was frequenting coffee shops to get free wifi as I didn’t have a connection up at home (solved as of yesterday)… but I think I have just not felt like it. I plan on writing short posts about things that strike me as odd, funny, interesting or just cool in this town. Many of those things have already crossed my path in the last three weeks… only the hurdle of writing things down still remains. I’ll take them one at a time.
For now, I’ll tell you about Forest Park, a collection of woods bordering the city, only a few blocks away from my apartment. The trails go on for miles and miles. This Sunday afternoon, I hiked some of them. As on any good day in Portland, I was walking between intervals of rain and sunshine. Whilst one of the better moments, I spotted this specimen on a tree trunk being hit by some sun rays. If you live in Portland, check out Forest Park. I was skeptical at first, but it’s worth it.
